The venue, which is also used for concerts, is named after Luis Ernesto Aparicio Montiel. He was born in Venezuela in 1934. Luis Ernesto Aparicio Montiel played Major League Baseball games for the Chicago White Sox, the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox. In 1966, he won the World Series with the Orioles from the United States. The Águilas del Zulia use the stadium named Estadio Luis Aparicio “El Grande” for home games. The club was founded in 1969. In 1984, they were crowned Venezuelan baseball champions for the first time in their history. The same year, the Águilas del Zulia won the Serie del Caribe for the first time in their history.
