The stadium, nicknamed El Bosque de Para Uno, opened with a football match between Olimpia and Santos FC from Brazil. Club Olimpia, one of the major sports clubs from Paraguay, use the Estadio Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb for home games. The club was founded in 1902. Olimpia and their arch-rivals Cerro Porteño became the first sports clubs from Paraguay with 100,000 followers on their main social media page. Club Olimpia won the Copa Libertadores several times. Olimpia won the South American championship for football clubs in 1979 for the first time in their history after defeating the Argentine side Boca Juniors.
The world championship for football clubs
In 1980, Olimpia won their first world title after beating the Swedish club Malmö FF in Asunción in front of 47,000 fans. Club Olimpia also won the first leg of the two-legged tie. The game took place in the Japanese city of Yokohama.

Roque Luis Santa Cruz Cantero started his professional football career with Olimpia. He became the player who scored the most goals for the national football team of Paraguay. In 1930, the national football team of Paraguay played in the inaugural FIFA World Cup. They finished below the United States and above Belgium in the group stage of the tournament. Paraguay lost their first FIFA World Cup match against the United States. The United States reached the semi-finals of the inaugural world championship for national football teams.
