A few weeks after the opening of the stadium, part of the roof of the venue collapsed after heavy rain. The stadium, which is named after a Brazilian brewery, hosted six FIFA World Cup matches in 2014. The national football teams of Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Costa Rica, the French Republic, Germany, Iran, the Netherlands, the Portuguese Republic, Spain, the Swiss Confederation and the United States played at the venue during the tournament. The first-ever FIFA World Cup game at the stadium was won by the Netherlands after beating Spain in front of 48,000 spectators.
The Games of the Olympiad
The Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova also hosted football matches for the Games of the Olympiad in 2016. The first Olympic football match at the venue was a game between the United Mexican States, commonly known as Mexico, and Germany. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. 16,000 people showed up for the game. The second Olympic football match at the Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova was won by Korea after beating Fiji.
EC Bahia
Esporte Clube Bahia, nicknamed Tricolor, use the venue for home games. The club was founded in 1931. Esporte Clube Vitória are their arch-rivals. They won the first match at the stadium named Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova after beating EC Bahia. Renato Adriano Jacó Moreira scored the first goal of the game. Esporte Clube Bahia were crowned Brazilian football champions in 1959 for the first time in their history. They won the domestic title after beating Santos Futebol Clube, the former club of the football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento.
Pelé
The former forward Edson Arantes do Nascimento, who is commonly known as Pelé, played hundreds of matches for Santos FC before he joined the New York Cosmos from the United States. Pelé, who played numerous matches for the national football team of Brazil, scored in two FIFA World Cup finals. He scored twice against the national football team of Sweden in 1958. In 1970, Pelé scored once against the Italian Republic, commonly known as Italy.
