The venue hosted its first-ever Rugby League World Cup match in 1986. 15,000 people attended the game, which was won by the national rugby league team of Papua New Guinea after defeating New Zealand 24-22. In 2016, the stadium hosted the first ever FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final in Papua New Guinea. A crowd of 14,000 showed up for the football match. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, commonly known as North Korea, won the game after beating the French Republic 3-1.
