Extra stadium info – Rod Laver Arena

The construction of the Rod Laver Arena started in 1985. It has a retractable roof. The tennis stadium is known as a venue for several events, like basketball, boxing, concerts, conferences, mixed martial arts, netball, skateboarding, swimming, tennis and wrestling. The venue is named after Rod Laver, a three-time winner of the Australian Open. He is generally regarded as one of the best tennis players ever. Laver was born in Queensland in 1938. A Rod Laver sculpture can be found next to the Rod Laver Arena.
