The construction of the venue, which is also known as the Western Sydney Stadium, started in 2016. The Parramatta Eels, the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Wests Tigers use the stadium for home games. In 2014, the Western Sydney Wanderers became the first football club from Australia with an Asian championship title. They won the continental tournament after beating Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia in a two-legged final. The Wanderers reached the final after Mateo Poljak from Croatia and Shannon Cole from Australia scored against FC Seoul. They played their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup match in 2014. The Western Sydney Wanderers were defeated by the Mexican side Cruz Azul in the quarter-finals of the world championship.
