The construction of the venue, which has a retractable roof, started in 1997. Its construction costs were $250 million. The stadium is used for various events, like baseball, boxing, concerts, cricket, football and wrestling. Club América, the first football club from North America with 10 million followers on its main social media page, won the first-ever football match at the Daikin Park. 12,000 people attended the game, which took place in 2006. Club América became the second football club from the United Mexican States, commonly known as Mexico, in a world championship tournament.

The stadium’s record attendance was broken in 2001, when 44,000 fans showed up for a baseball game between the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2005, the venue broke a record when it hosted the longest postseason game in Major League Baseball history, both in terms of time and number of innings. The Houston Astros defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-6 in a game lasting 18 innings, which took five hours and 50 minutes to play.
The World Series
In 2005, the Daikin Park hosted its first match for the World Series when the Astros faced the Chicago White Sox. It was the first-ever World Series match in Texas. The Houston Astros won the World Series in 2017 for the first time in their history after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers from California. It was the 113th edition of the baseball tournament. The Astros became the first baseball club from Texas with a World Series title. The Astros drew an average home league attendance of 29,000 in 2017.
