The stadium, which opened in 1999 as the Adelphia Coliseum, is also used for concerts. The construction costs of the venue were $290 million. On 1 April 2009, the Nissan Stadium hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup qualifier. On 1 March 2020, the Nissan Stadium hosted the inaugural Major League Soccer match of Nashville SC. 59,000 people attended the football match between Nashville SC and Atlanta United. Nashville SC reached the conference semi-finals of the MLS play-offs in their maiden top-flight football league season. In the semi-finals, they were defeated by the Columbus Crew from Ohio.
