The construction of the Major League Baseball venue started in 1999. Its construction costs were $216 million. The ballpark opened with a baseball game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Mets. The Pittsburgh Pirates use the PNC Park for home matches. They used several ballparks for home games before they moved to the PNC Park. The Pirates used to play their home matches at the Three Rivers Stadium before they moved to the PNC Park. Between 1970 and 2000, they used the Three Rivers Stadium for home games. The Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League also used the venue for home games between 1970 and 2000. They won the Super Bowl in 1974 for the first time in their history. The American football club won the Super Bowl four times in the 1970s.
The World Series
The Pittsburgh Pirates won several World Series titles. They won their first-ever World Series title in 1909 after beating the Detroit Tigers from Michigan. The 1909 World Series consisted of seven matches between the Pirates and the Tigers. The Pittsburgh Pirates won four of those seven matches. The first game in the 1909 World Series took place in Pennsylvania in front of 29,000 fans. The Pirates won the game 4-1.

The Pittsburgh Pirates won the World Series five times in the 20th century. In 1925, they won the World Series for the second time in their history. In 1960, the Pirates defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Yankees baseball club became the first club with 20 World Series titles. Barry Lamar Bonds
Barry Lamar Bonds is one of the former players of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was born in California in 1964. In 1986, Bonds joined the Pirates. Several years later, he left the club for the San Francisco Giants. In 2001, Barry Lamar Bonds became the MLB player with the most home runs in a single season. He also became the MLB player with the most home runs. Bonds ended his MLB career with 762 home runs.
