The construction of the venue started in 2019 and its construction costs were $314 million. The stadium opened with a Major League Soccer match between the Columbus Crew and the New England Revolution. The game, which took place in front of 20,000 spectators, ended in a 2-2 draw. The Crew, the first football club from Ohio with 100,000 followers on its main social media page, drew an average home attendance of 18,000 in their inaugural Major League Soccer season.
The Columbus Crew in 2008
The Columbus Crew reached the MLS Cup in 2008 for the first time in their history. They reached the MLS Cup after beating the Chicago Fire from Illinois. The game between the Crew and the Fire took place in the city of Columbus in front of 14,000 spectators. On 23 November 2008, the Columbus Crew faced Red Bull New York in the MLS Cup. Red Bull New York, also known as the Red Bulls, reached the MLS Cup after beating Real Salt Lake from Utah. The Crew won the MLS Cup, which took place in California in front of 27,000 spectators, in 2008. Alejandro Enrique Moreno Riera, Chad Marshall and Frank Daniel Hejduk all scored for the Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup.

In 2020, the Crew reached the MLS Cup for the second time in their history. They reached the MLS Cup after defeating the New England Revolution from Massachusetts. The Seattle Sounders from Washington also reached the MLS Cup in 2020. They reached the MLS Cup after beating Minnesota United. On 12 December 2020, the Crew won their second MLS Cup after defeating the Sounders. Lucas Manuel Zelarayán, who was born in the Argentine city of Córdoba in 1992, scored twice against the Seattle Sounders that day.
Stern John
Stern John, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago in 1976, is one of the former players of the Columbus Crew. In the 1990s, he scored 44 goals in 55 MLS games for the Crew. Stern John played 115 matches for the national football team of Trinidad and Tobago. He became the first football player from North America who scored at least 70 goals for a national football team. Stern John left the Columbus Crew in 1999 for Nottingham Forest, the second English football club with multiple European championship titles. He played for several other English football clubs after he left Nottingham Forest in 2002.
