The construction of the National Hockey League arena started in 2019. It is used for several events, like basketball, concerts, ice hockey, mixed martial arts and wrestling. The first concert at the UBS Arena took place on 28 November 2001. It was a concert of Harry Edward Styles. One day later, the first wrestling event took place at the UBS Arena. On 3 December 2001, the Kansas Jayhawks won the first basketball match at the venue. The first mixed martial arts event at the UBS Arena took place on 16 July 2022. It was a mixed martial arts event produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The New York Islanders
The New York Islanders use the UBS Arena for home games. On 20 November 2021, they played their first match at the venue. The Islanders lost the NHL game against the Calgary Flames from Canada. 17,000 fans attended the match. The New York Islanders won their first game at the UBS Arena on 11 December 2021. The NHL game between the Islanders and the New Jersey Devils ended in a 4-2 victory for the home side.
The Stanley Cup
The New York Islanders won the Stanley Cup in 1980 for the first time in their history. They faced the Philadelphia Flyers in the finals of the Stanley Cup that year. The championship series of the NHL consisted of six games in 1980. The Islanders won four of those six games. The New York Islanders won the Stanley Cup four consecutive times between 1980 and 1983. In 1984, they almost won their fifth consecutive Stanley Cup title. That year, the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup after defeating the New York Islanders in the championship series of the NHL.
