The construction of the ballpark started in 1968 and its construction costs were $70 million. The stadium opened with a capacity of 40,000. Since 1993, the Major League Baseball venue has been known as the Kauffman Stadium in honour of the Kansas City Royals’ founding owner. The Royals won the World Series in 1985 for the first time in their history after beating the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2015, they won their second World Series title after defeating the New York Mets.
