The construction of the Xcel Energy Center, which opened as one of the largest sports venues by capacity in Minnesota, started in 1998. Its construction costs were $170 million. The Minnesota Swarm, a former box lacrosse club, used the arena for home games. The Minnesota Lynx, a women’s basketball club, played various home games at the venue. They won several WNBA titles.
