Extra stadium info – Gainbridge Fieldhouse
The construction of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse started in 1997. Its construction costs were $183 million. The arena opened as the Conseco Fieldhouse. It was named after a financial services holding company when it opened. In 2011, the arena became the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It was renamed Gainbridge Fieldhouse in 2021. The Indiana Fever and the Indiana Pacers both use the Gainbridge Fieldhouse for home matches.
The Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever play in the Women’s National Basketball Association, which became the most popular women’s basketball league in the world. In 2009, they played in the championship series of the WNBA for the first time in their history. The Fever faced the Phoenix Mercury in the finals. The championship series consisted of five matches. The first two of those five matches took place in Arizona. The third match in the championship series took place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in front of 18,000 fans. A few days later, the venue hosted its second game for the finals of the WNBA.
The Fever in 2012
In 2012, the Indiana Fever were crowned Women’s National Basketball Association champions for the first time in their history. They won the title after beating the Minnesota Lynx three times in the championship series of the WNBA. The championship series consisted of four games. The first two of those four games took place in Minnesota. The other two took place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Indiana Pacers
The indoor venue named Gainbridge Fieldhouse opened in 1999 with a basketball match between the Indiana Pacers, the first basketball club from Indiana with 1 million followers on its main social media page, and the Boston Celtics from Massachusetts. The Pacers play in the National Basketball Association, which became the most popular basketball league in the world.
