The construction of the venue, which opened with a football match, started in 2019. Its construction costs were $60 million. On 9 December 2020, the national football team of the United States played their first game at the stadium. They won the game against El Salvador 6-0. In 2023, the DRV PNK Stadium was expanded. Inter Miami, one of the first sports clubs from the United States with 10 million followers on its main social media page, use the venue for home games. The Major League Soccer club became one of the first sports clubs from Florida with a value of at least $1 billion.
Inter Miami matches
Inter Miami played their first-ever MLS match on 1 March 2020. The match against Los Angeles Football Club, which took place in California, was played in front of 22,000 fans. LAFC won the game 1-0 after the Mexican winger Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido scored the only goal of the match. Inter Miami won their first-ever Major League Soccer match on 23 August 2020. The game against Orlando City ended in a 3-2 victory for Inter Miami. In 2022, Inter Miami played their first match against a club with at least one world championship title at the DRV PNK Stadium. The world famous Spanish side FC Barcelona won the game.
The Higuaín brothers
In 2020, Inter Miami signed the Argentine football star Gonzalo Gerardo Higuaín. He played professional football for River Plate, Real Madrid, SSC Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and Chelsea before he signed with Inter Miami. His brother, Federico Fernando Higuaín, also signed with Inter Miami in 2020. Gonzalo Higuaín and Federico Higuaín both started their professional football career with the famous Argentine side River Plate. In 2021, they both scored against the Philadelphia Union in a Major League Soccer game. Gonzalo Higuaín played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, which took place in Brazil. In 2017, Higuaín played his only UEFA Champions League final.
Lionel Messi
Inter Miami signed the Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, the second athlete with 100 million followers on his or her social media page, in 2023. Messi won various domestic titles with FC Barcelona. He also won UEFA Champions League titles, UEFA Super Cup titles and FIFA Club World Cup titles with the Spanish club. Lionel Messi scored hundreds of goals for the Spanish football giants FC Barcelona before he signed with the French football giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. In 2022, he won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar with the national football team of the Argentine Republic.
