The construction of the venue started in 2020. The Wild Horse Pass Stadium opened with a football match between Phoenix Rising Football Club and the San Diego Loyal. The home side won the game 4-1. The Phoenix Rising use the stadium for home games. The club was founded in 2014 under a different name. The Ivorian football legend Didier Yves Drogba Tébily is one of the former players of the Phoenix Rising.

Didier Drogba, widely regarded as one of the greatest African football players of all time, scored 13 league goals for the Phoenix Rising. He played professional football for Le Mans FC, EA Guingamp, Olympique de Marseille, Chelsea, Shanghai Shenhua, Galatasaray and the club which is currently known as CF Montréal before he ended his professional football career with the Phoenix Rising. Drogba ended his professional football career in 2018 at the age of 40. In 2006, he scored the first-ever FIFA World Cup goal for the national football team of the Côte d’Ivoire. In 2012, Didier Drogba won the prestigious UEFA Champions League with Chelsea Football Club after he scored in the final. It was the first-ever UEFA Champions League title for the English football club.
