The ballpark was named Estadio Sonora before it became the Estadio Fernando Valenzuela. It is currently named after Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea, a former Mexican baseball player who played for several Major League Baseball clubs. He started his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers from California. Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea ended his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals from Missouri. The Naranjeros de Hermosillo use the stadium named Estadio Fernando Valenzuela for home games. They won the Serie del Caribe in 1976 for the first time in their history.
