The stadium is named after a woman who was born in 1768 as María Josefa Cresencia Ortíz y Girón. She was also known as La Corregidora. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, the first person with 100 million followers on his or her social media page, performed at the Estadio Corregidora de Querétaro. The stadium was one of the FIFA World Cup venues in 1986. The Estadio Corregidora de Querétaro hosted three group-stage games for the world championship. It also hosted a round-of-16 match. The national football team of Spain won the game after beating Denmark in front of 38,000 spectators.
Querétaro FC
Querétaro Fútbol Club use the Estadio Corregidora de Querétaro for home matches. The club was founded in 1950. They played numerous matches in the Mexican top-flight football league. In 2014, the club signed the world famous Brazilian football star Ronaldo de Assís Moreira, commonly known as Ronaldinho. He became one of the first athletes with 10 million followers on his main social media page. Ronaldinho won the 2002 FIFA World Cup with the national football team of Brazil after beating Germany in Japan. He played professional football for Grêmio, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro before he signed with Querétaro FC. Ronaldo de Assís Moreira ended his professional football career with Fluminense in 2015.

In 2020, Ronaldinho entered the Republic of Paraguay with a fake passport. After the entry, he was taken into custody. His brother Roberto de Assis Moreira, who played professional football in several countries, was also taken into custody after the entry.
