The stadium, which is owned by the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, was renovated several times. Several world famous artists performed at the venue named Estadio 3 de Marzo. It hosted 1986 FIFA World Cup matches of the national football teams of Algeria, Morocco, Northern Ireland, the Portuguese Republic and Spain. On 3 June 1986, the stadium hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup game. The match between Algeria and Northern Ireland ended in a 1-1 draw. 22,000 people showed up for the world championship game. Tecos Fútbol Club use the Estadio 3 de Marzo for home matches. The club was founded in 1971. In 1994, Tecos FC were crowned Mexican football champions for the first time in their history. They won the title after beating Santos Laguna.
