Extra stadium info – IG Field
The construction of the IG Field started in 2010. It opened as one of the largest sports venues by capacity in Canada. The stadium is used for several events, like American football, Canadian football, concerts, football and ice hockey. The IG Field hosted its first FIFA Women’s World Cup match on 8 June 2015. The game between the women’s national football teams of Sweden and Nigeria ended in a 3-3 draw. 31,000 spectators showed up for the game. Australia, China, Ecuador, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and the United States also played at the IG Field during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The tournament was won by the United States after beating Japan 5-2. 53,000 people attended the final, which took place in the city of Vancouver.
Canadian football
The Manitoba Bisons, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Rifles use the IG Field for Canadian football games. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers became one of the first Canadian football clubs with 100,000 followers on its main social media page. They are members of the Canadian Football League, the most popular Canadian football competition. The Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup various times.
Valour FC
Valour Football Club also use the IG Field for home games. The football club was founded in 2017. They are members of the Canadian Premier League. Valour FC finished seventh place in the inaugural Canadian Premier League season, which took place in 2019. They lost their first-ever Canadian Premier League game against FC Edmonton. A few days later, Valour FC won their second league match 1-0. The forward Calum Ferguson scored the only goal of the game.
