The construction of the arena, which opened as the MTS Centre, started in 2003. The Manitoba Moose, the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Sea Bears use the Canada Life Centre for home games. The Moose and the Jets were both founded in the 1990s. The Winnipeg Sea Bears basketball club was founded in 2022. The Winnipeg Jets play in the National Hockey League. The NHL became the most popular ice hockey league in the world. The Jets played their first game at the Canada Life Centre in 2011. They drew an average home attendance of 15,000 in that National Hockey League season.
