The stadium’s record attendance was set in 1962, when 35,000 people attended a football match between Kilmarnock FC and Rangers FC. Kilmarnock Football Club, nicknamed Killie, was founded in 1869. Killie moved to the Rugby Park in 1899. They won the Scottish football championship in 1965 for the first time in their history.
