The venue is located next to a cemetery. On 30 April 1968, the stadium’s record attendance of 27,000 was set in a football match between Dunfermline Athletic and Celtic. Dunfermline Athletic Football Club, also known as The Pars, was founded in 1885. In 1961, they won the Scottish cup tournament for the first time in their history. They won the title after beating Celtic, the first Scottish football club with a European championship title. Dunfermline Athletic FC won the Scottish cup tournament two times in the 1960s. They won their second Scottish cup tournament title in 1968 after defeating Heart of Midlothian FC.
