The construction costs of the venue, which opened as the JJB Stadium, were £30 million. Wigan Athletic and the Wigan Warriors both moved to the stadium in 1999. Wigan Athletic, nicknamed the Latics, was founded in 1932. In 2013, they won the FA Cup for the first time in their history after beating Manchester City in the final. Ben Watson scored the only goal of the FA Cup final. The Latics drew an average home attendance of 19,000 during that league season. The Wigan Warriors rugby league club was founded in 1872.
