Barnsley FC, nicknamed The Tykes, moved to the Oakwell Stadium in 1888. They reached the FA Cup final in 1910 for the first time in their history. That year, Newcastle United won their first-ever FA Cup title after beating Barnsley FC in front of tens of thousands of spectators. In 1912, Barnsley Football Club won the FA Cup for the first time in their history after beating West Bromwich Albion in front of tens of thousands of spectators. Barnsley FC made their debut in the Premier League in 1997. In 1998, they were relegated after finishing 19th place in the Premier League. The Tykes drew an average home attendance of 18,000 in their maiden Premier League season.
