The construction of the venue started in 2001 and its construction costs were £44 million. It opened as the KC Stadium. The stadium was known as the KCOM Stadium before it became the MKM Stadium in 2021. Hull City and Hull FC use the venue for home games. Hull FC was founded in 1865 and Hull City was founded in 1904. Hull City became one of the first English sports teams with 1 million followers on its main social media page. In 2008, Hull City made their debut in the Premier League, the top-flight football league of England. They drew an average home attendance of 24,000 in their first Premier League season. Hull City finished 17th place in that Premier League season. The next Premier League season, they were relegated after finishing 19th place.
