The construction costs of the venue, which is also known as the Kirklees Stadium, were £40 million. It opened as the Alfred McAlpine Stadium. The stadium was known as the Galpharm Stadium between 2004 and 2012. The Huddersfield Giants, one of the oldest rugby league clubs in the world, and Huddersfield Town Association Football Club use the venue for home games. Huddersfield Town, nicknamed The Terriers, won the English top-division in 1924 for the first time in their history. They drew an average home attendance of 17,000 in 21 games during that domestic league season. Huddersfield Town AFC won two more national titles and the FA Cup in the 1920s.
