Extra stadium info – Carrow Road Stadium
The Carrow Road Stadium, which is also used for concerts, was renovated several times. It became the largest sports venue by capacity in Norwich. Floodlights were erected at the stadium in 1956 and the costs nearly sent Norwich City FC into bankruptcy. The stadium’s record attendance was set in 1963, when 43,000 fans showed up for a football match between Norwich City and Leicester City. The home side lost the game.
The inaugural Premier League season
Norwich City Football Club, nicknamed The Canaries, played in the inaugural season of the Premier League. The Premier League became one of the first sports competitions with 10 million followers on its main social media page. Norwich City drew an average home attendance of 16,000 in their maiden Premier League season. The Canaries finished third place in that domestic league season, below Manchester United and Aston Villa. During that football season, they gathered 72 points in 38 Premier League matches.
