The national football teams of Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the Portuguese Republic played 2012 UEFA European Football Championship matches at the stadium. Metalist 1925 use the stadium for home games and Shakhtar Donetsk used the stadium for home games. Shakhtar Donetsk became the first Ukrainian sports club with 1 million followers on its main social media page. It also became the first Ukrainian sports club with a value of at least $100 million.
