The construction of the venue, which has a rectractable roof, started in September 2010. It is used for several events, like bandy, concerts and football. DIF and Hammarby use the stadium for home games. They are among the major Swedish sports clubs. On 20 July 2013, Hammarby played their first game at the Tele2 Arena. 29,000 fans attended the match, which ended in a goalless draw. The next day, 27,000 fans showed up for the first game of Djurgårdens IF at the Tele2 Arena. The visitors won the match. The next year, Hammarby drew an average home attendance of 20,000 in 15 league games. DIF drew an average home attendance of 13,000 in 15 league games in 2014.
