The construction of the Basque venue, which became one of the largest stadiums by capacity in Spain, started in 1991. It opened with a football match between Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. Real Madrid became the first sports club in the world with 100 million followers on its main social media page.
