In 1982, the stadium hosted FIFA World Cup matches. On 17 June 1982, the venue hosted the first-ever FIFA World Cup game of the national football team of Kuwait. Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, one of the first football clubs from Spain with 100,000 followers on its main social media page, use the stadium for home games. The club was founded in 1928. Real Valladolid played their first-ever Spanish cup final in 1950. They lost the game against Athletic Club.
