The stadium is located on Mallorca, the largest island of the Balearic Islands. The national football team of Spain used the venue for home games. It is the home of Real Club Deportivo Mallorca. The club was founded in 1916 under a different name. In 1998, they won the Spanish super cup for the first time in their history after beating FC Barcelona. RCD Mallorca drew an average home attendance of 16,000 in that domestic top-flight football league season. In 2003, they won the Spanish cup tournament for the first time in their history. Real Club Deportivo Mallorca won the title after beating Recreativo de Huelva.
Samuel Eto’o Fils
Samuel Eto’o Fils, who scored 56 goals for the national football team of Cameroon, is one of the former players of RCD Mallorca. He became the first football player who won the African Footballer of the Year award four times. Eto’o joined Real Club Deportivo Mallorca in 2000. He scored 54 goals in 133 league games for RCD Mallorca. Samuel Eto’o Fils left RCD Mallorca in 2004 for the Spanish football giants FC Barcelona.
