The construction of the stadium started in 2013. It is also used for concerts and ice hockey. The venue, which became the largest stadium by capacity in the Slovak Republic, opened with a football match between ŠK Slovan and Spartak Trnava. 22,000 people attended the game, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the home side. In 1994, ŠK Slovan won the inaugural edition of the Slovak top-flight football league. On 13 October 2019, the venue named Národný futbalový štadión hosted its first-ever match for the national football team of the Slovak Republic. The match between the Slovaks and Paraguay ended in a 1-1 draw.
The UEFA Champions League
ŠK Slovan played in the maiden league phase of the UEFA Champions League. In 2025, they finished 35th out of 36 clubs in the league phase. ŠK Slovan faced the Scottish side Celtic, the English side Manchester City, the Spanish side Girona FC, the Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, the Italian side AC Milan, the Spanish side Atlético de Madrid, the German side VfB Stuttgart and the German side Bayern München in the league phase. They lost all eight matches. ŠK Slovan drew an average attendance of 22,000 in four home games in the league phase.
