The construction of the stadium started in 2013. It is also used for concerts and ice hockey. The venue, which became the largest stadium by capacity in the Slovak Republic, opened with a football match between ŠK Slovan and Spartak Trnava. 22,000 people attended the game, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the home side. In 1994, ŠK Slovan won the inaugural edition of the Slovak top-flight football league. On 13 October 2019, the venue named Národný futbalový štadión hosted its first-ever match of the national football team of the Slovak Republic. The match between the Slovaks and Paraguay ended in a 1-1 draw.
