Extra stadium info – VEB Arena

The construction of the stadium, which is also known as Arena CSKA, started in 2007. It opened as one of the largest sports venues by capacity in Moscow. CSKA use the venue for home matches. The club, which is among the most popular sports clubs in Russia, was founded in 1911. They were crowned Russian football champions several times. CSKA also won the Russian cup tournament several times.

The UEFA Cup

In 2005, CSKA became the first-ever Russian football club to win a European trophy. They won the title after beating Sporting Clube de Portugal in the UEFA Cup final. In 2008, Zenit became the second Russian club which won the UEFA Cup. The tournament is currently known as the UEFA Europa League. It is the second-tier competition in European club football. The UEFA Cup final between Sporting Clube de Portugal and CSKA took place in the Portuguese city of Lisbon in front of 47,000 spectators. The same year, CSKA drew an average home attendance of 11,000 in 15 Russian top-flight football league games.

The UEFA Super Cup

CSKA played their first-ever UEFA Super Cup match in 2005. They lost the game against the English football giants Liverpool Football Club. 17,000 people showed up for the game, which took place in Monaco. Daniel da Silva Carvalho scored the only goal for CSKA in the 2005 UEFA Super Cup final. He played three matches for the national football team of Brazil. Djibril Cissé, who played 41 matches for the national football team of the French Republic, scored the second goal of the game. He also scored the third goal of the game. Luis Javier García Sanz, who played 18 matches for the national football team of Spain, scored the fourth goal of the game.
