The Central Stadium is known as a venue for several events, like athletics, football, ice hockey and rugby union. It became one of the venues used by the national rugby union team of Russia. They played their first-ever Rugby World Cup match in 2011. The world championship game, which was won by the United States, took place in New Zealand. The national rugby union team of Russia finished below Ireland, Australia, the Italian Republic and the United States in the group stage of the 2011 Rugby World Cup. New Zealand won the tournament after defeating the French Republic.
Football Club Yenisey
Football Club Yenisey use the Central Stadium for home games. The club was founded in 1937 under a different name. In 2018, they made their debut in the Russian top-flight football league. FC Yenisey faced Zenit, the second Russian club with a UEFA Cup title, in their first-ever Russian top-flight football league match. The game took place in Tyumen in front of 10,000 spectators. Zenit won the match. On 11 August 2018, Yenisey faced PFC CSKA. Mikhail Aleksandrovich Kostyukov scored the first-ever Russian top-flight football league goal for FC Yenisey that day. On 27 August 2018, Yenisey won their first Russian top-flight league game. They faced Krylia Sovetov in that match.
Russian top-flight football league matches at the Central Stadium
On 22 September 2018, Football Club Yenisey played against FC Ural in their first Russian top-flight league game at the Central Stadium. The visitors won the match, which attracted a crowd of 12,000. Yenisey faced Spartak Moscow in their second top-flight league game at the Central Stadium. 14,000 fans attended the match, which ended in a victory for the visitors. FC Yenisey also lost their third game at the Central Stadium. They played against Lokomotiv Moscow in that match, which attracted 11,000 people.
