The stadium opened with a football match between Gil Vicente and Club Nacional de Football. The Uruguayan side Club Nacional de Football, one of the first football clubs from the Pampas with 100,000 followers on its main social media page, won the South American championship for football clubs three times in the 20th century. They also won three world championship titles in the 20th century.
