The stadium became a venue for several events, like concerts, football and rallying. It hosted 2004 UEFA European Football Championship matches of the national football teams of the Hellenic Republic, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain and Sweden. The Hellenic Republic, also known as Greece, won the tournament after defeating the Portuguese Republic. The Greek forward Angelos Charisteas scored the only goal in the final. The same year, Charisteas won the German top-flight football league with Werder Bremen.
