The stadium hosted numerous home games of the national football team of North Macedonia. In 2021, they made their European championship debut. Finland also made their debut that year. The national football team of North Macedonia finished below the Netherlands, Austria and Ukraine in the group stage of their maiden European championship.

Rabotnički and Vardar both use the venue named National Arena Tošhe Proeski for home matches. Rabotnički was founded in 1937 and Vardar was founded in 1947. Vardar won the top-flight football league of North Macedonia in 1993 for the first time in their history. They became the first football club from North Macedonia with 10 top-flight league titles. In 2005, Rabotnički were crowned North Macedonian football champions for the first time in their history.
