The capacity of the stadium, which is among the main sports venues in Limburg, was 18,000. Stadion de Geusselt opened with a football match between MVV and Willem II. Van der Kuijlen played 528 Dutch top-flight league games for PSV. He scored 308 goals in those 528 games. Skiete Willy also scored three goals for MVV in the Dutch top division. With 311 goals, Van der Kuijlen became the player who scored the most goals in the Dutch top-flight football league. He scored multiple goals against Heinz Stuy. In 1971, the record for consecutive clean sheets in the Dutch top-flight football league was broken by Stuy when he played for Ajax. In 2004, Heurelho da Silva Gomes almost broke the record when he played for PSV.
