The construction of the stadium, which is named after a former football player, started in 1995. NAC Breda was founded in 1912, when the clubs ADVENDO and NOAD merged into the NOAD ADVENDO Combinatie. The full name of NAC Breda is Nooit Opgeven Altijd Doorzetten Aangenaam Door Vermaak En Nuttig Door Ontspanning Combinatie Breda. It became one of the longest sports club names in the world.
The first century of NAC Breda
NAC Breda, nicknamed Parel van het Zuiden, were crowned Dutch football champions in 1921 for the first time in their history. In 1973, they won the Dutch cup tournament for the first time in their history after beating NEC. NAC Breda played their first Dutch top-flight football league games at the Rat Verlegh Stadion in 1996. They drew an average home attendance of 12,000 during that domestic league season.
