The venue has been named MAC³PARK stadion since 2016. In 2014, PEC Zwolle won the Dutch cup tournament for the first time in their history after beating Ajax 5-1. They drew an average home attendance of 12,000 in that league season. Jakob Stam, commonly known as Jaap Stam, started his professional football career with the club which is currently named PEC Zwolle. The former defender also played professional football for Cambuur, Willem II, PSV, Manchester United, Lazio, AC Milan and Ajax. He became the manager of PEC Zwolle in 2018.

Jakob Stam finished fourth place with the national football team of the Netherlands in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. In 1999, he won the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United after beating the German side Bayern München. Jakob Stam also won the FA Cup and the Premier League with Manchester United before he won a world championship title. He won the world championship title on 30 November 1999 after beating the Brazilian side Palmeiras with Manchester United.
