The arena is also known as a venue for boxing, circus events, concerts, handball, ice hockey and volleyball. The venue opened with a basketball match between Lithuania and Spain, which attracted a crowd of 15,000. Žalgiris use the Žalgirio Arena for home matches. The basketball club was founded in 1944. They won the EuroLeague in 1999 for the first time in their history.
