The stadium is named after Kleanthis Vikelidis, a former football player of Aris. He played for the club between 1933 and 1949. Aris is among the first Greek sports clubs with a value of at least €10 million. The club was founded in 1914. In 1928, Aris were crowned Greek football champions for the first time in their history.
