The stadium, nicknamed Bielefelder Alm, has been the home of Arminia Bielefeld since 1926. The club was founded in 1905. Arminia Bielefeld played their first-ever German top-flight football league matches in 1970. They drew an average home attendance of 24,000 in that league season. Arminia finished 14th place in their maiden top division season after winning 12 of the 34 league games. Five of those 34 matches ended in a draw.
