The stadium, nicknamed Bielefelder Alm, has been the home of Arminia Bielefeld since 1926. The club was founded in 1905. Arminia Bielefeld played their first-ever German top-flight football league matches in 1970. They drew an average home attendance of 24,000 in that league season.
