In 2011, the venue hosted four FIFA Women’s World Cup games. The United States won the first one after defeating the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea 2-0. 21,000 people attended the match. The women’s national football team of England won the second one after beating New Zealand. The third one between Canada and Nigeria ended in a victory for the Africans. The United States won the fourth match after beating Brazil in a penalty shoot-out.

The stadium’s record attendance was broken in 1983, when 38,000 fans showed up for a match between Dynamo Dresden and BFC Dynamo. Dynamo Dresden, the first sports club from Dresden with 100,000 followers on its main social media page, use the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion for home matches. The football club was founded in 1953. They played numerous matches in the European championship for football clubs.
