The arena opened as the Kölnarena. It is known as a venue for various events, like basketball, concerts, handball, ice hockey and mixed martial arts. Shakira, the first person with 100 million followers on his or her social media page, performed at the indoor venue. She was born in Colombia in 1977. The Kölner Haie use the LANXESS arena for home games. They won the inaugural Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the German top-flight ice hockey league, in 1995.
