Dijon Football Côte-d’Or, nicknamed Les Rouges, was founded in 1998. On 7 August 2011, Dijon FCO played their first-ever French top-flight football league match. They lost the Ligue 1 match against Stade rennais. Dijon FCO drew an average home attendance of 13,000 in their maiden top-flight league season. They were relegated to the second level of French football after finishing 19th place in that league season.
