The stadium was named Kayseri Kadir Has Şehir Stadyumu before it became the RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu. It opened with a football match between Kayserispor and Fenerbahçe. The visitors won the Turkish top-flight football league game. Semih Şentürk and Alexsandro de Souza both scored for Fenerbahçe in the match. Semih Şentürk played various matches for the national football team of Türkiye. Alexsandro de Souza played various matches for the national football team of Brazil. Kayserispor was founded in 1966. The club became one of the major Turkish football clubs.
The national football team of Türkiye and Tuncay Şanlı
On 5 September 2009, the national football team of Türkiye played their first game at the RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu. They won the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Estonia 4-2 in front of 28,000 spectators. Tuncay Şanlı was the only player who scored twice in the match. He scored various goals for the national football team of Türkiye. Tuncay Şanlı ended his professional football career with FC Pune City, a former football club from India.
The 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup
The RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu hosted its first game for the FIFA U-20 World Cup on 21 June 2013. Korea won the youth football match after beating Cuba. Later that day, the Portuguese Republic defeated Nigeria in the second FIFA U-20 World Cup game at the RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu. Ghana and the United States also played at the venue during the group stage of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu hosted a round-of-16 match for the tournament. Ghana won the match after beating the Portuguese Republic. The stadium also hosted a quarter-final for the world championship. Iraq won the game after winning a penalty shoot-out against Korea.
