The construction of the stadium started in October 2012. The national football team of Türkiye played various matches at the Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu. On 3 September 2015, they played their first game at the stadium. The match against Latvia, which attracted a crowd of 35,000, ended in a 1-1 draw. Three days later, the national football team of Türkiye won their first match at the Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu after beating the Netherlands 3-0. They lost their first game at the Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu on 17 November 2018. The national football team of Sweden won the match after Andreas Granqvist scored the only goal of the match.
